Review: Ice Colo / OpenHosting Manchester Datacentre
Hi
Hi
I thought I'd find sometime to write a review on Ice Colo who have just opened a new data centre in Manchester.
We moved our 48u rack from Melbourne.co.uk to IceColo in October 2009, IceColo were more than helpful, I am very happy with the level of customer service I have so far received. The Day before I moved my servers, I had an email from Jonathan at IceColo to inform me he will be bringing in extra staff that night dedicated to helping us with our move in! I was really pleased with this as it really speeded up the whole process.
One pleasure of being with Icecolo is if I need someone to quickly do something for me at 3am, I can submit a ticket to the and it is done in minutes! with my previous provider I would of had to drive to the data centre myself to do this, again another +1 to ice colo.
Some of my favourite features of IceColo:
Excellent Rack Rates
State of the art 2009 data centre
Plenty of power available
Really Fast internet connection
Excellent Bandwidth Prices
24x7x365 Super fast on site support
Ability to have Fast VLAN connection to another data centre where we colo our backup servers for DR.
For those of you who are wondering why I left my previous provider:
I did not have any issues as such with the old provider, I moved mostly due to cost being a lot higher for less service, support being UK office hours only, 12amp brakers on 48u racks is not enough for high spec servers, bandwidth prices were also the highest around and finally a few times when calling the emergency support line I could not get hold of anyone apart from the virtual reception company.

Hi,
Is anyone able to recommend a US-based East Coast colocation company that would be able to supply a Supermicro system built to our own specification?
Cheers!
I recommend Quonix Networks.

Opinion of Extreme Networks
Just wondering how many people are fans of or are using Extreme equipment in production. If so what models?

I'm looking to get VOIP services securely to my PBX (Fibertown @ Bryan, Texas) from Vitelity.
Vitelity offers Colo services as well as point to point T1's. I'm debating between putting in 2 VPN edge devices in their colo, or going the point to point T1 route. Anyone have any suggestions or experience with these services.
(Yes I know there is a VOIP forum, but those people are 99% interested in finding the cheapest transit for their house, and this seemed more appropriate of an audience).

We're interested in finding affordable (and competent) remote hand services in Ashburn, Virginia, at Equinix (21715 Filigree Ct.). We only require the typical rack and stack services, with KVM moves once in awhile.
Please do not recommend Equinix Smart Hands, or Defender (already on our list).

I am using Extreme Networks Black Diamond 8810s as core switches. I can't decide if I should put the iSCSI traffic on seperate switches or just VLAN a section of the core.
I'm leaning towards seperate switches all together, but was wondering if anyone is using VLANs with a problem.

Hey guys!
Got a question about UberBandwidth. We're considering them for a primary datacenter. We recently took a tour. At this point, I've researched some reviews, and everything seems fine. So my question is, is their bandwidth (which is cheap cheap cheap) good bandwidth, and has anyone experienced any issues?
Thanks!

OK, we had been using Extreme X450 switches as aggregation switches for customers needing a decent amount of bandwidth, getting them hooked up via 10 GigE to the core, etc. Well, those have been about the most unreliable pieces of crap we've ever seen... Issue is, I haven't been able to find anything comparable that isn't significantly more expensive.
Now, I know the Cisco 3560E-48TD would work, but it seems a bit overkill. These are just aggregation switches, and I just need something reliable, not a bunch of features. My requirements are that it have 48 Gigabit copper ports and 2 or more 10 GigE uplinks. Any suggestions?
Note: I highly recommend that no one consider Extreme switches for any purpose, ever...

Dear all,
1) please, could you recommend colocation providers/resellers in Telehouse New York datacenters?
2) cross-connects in Telehouse do not attract MRC, do they?
Can a hosting reseller charge his own fee for cross-connects? How typical is it?

SO I have a KVM switch that requires 12VDC. THe connector has a "+" figure on th end, i think this is a fairly standard 12VDC connector you find on most transformers. But the transformer that came with it is for 120V, not 208V. So I plugged it in and fried the transformer without thinking (i am used to all equipment accepting any voltage, stupid me).
SO where can I find the right transformer that converts 208V to this 12VDC "+" pigtail (looks like an "O" connector at the end).
i tried google and no luck; i figure someone here has dealt with this before putting stuff into co-los with C13/C14s

So who's in 32Ave of the Americas in NYC. Who's going to be cost effective for a gig burstable link with between 25 and 100mb commit. Would love to keep to carriers with pops in the building so there isn't a one-two punch of local loop and cross-connect...
And yeah - why the heck do colos feel they need to charge you $300/month for a piece of fiber that goes in once and is never maintained or serviced?
So far I'm talking to cogent - who else?
